A unique fountain pen in a classic Japanese form, featuring the Urushi technique. These ebonite fountain pens are relatively large, measuring 151 mm in length. They are designed as cartridge pens. They are supplied with only an M nib. They are packaged in an elaborate gift box, including a kimono.
Traditional Wajima-nuri is the most important urushi lacquer art form of Wajima on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture and is said to have originated in the early Edo period (1603-1868). The harsh climate of the region required a durable urushi lacquer coating.
The Akebono-nuri was created by artist Masanori Sumi, who lives in Wajima City and has worked with Wajima-nuri for 40 years. He elegantly masters the difficult technique of gradation lacquer, creating the impression that light emerges from the darkness of the urushi lacquer.
