The Hovel (actually spelled Høvel) is a very special pencil sharpener: it's essentially a pencil plane that allows you to sharpen your pencil exactly the way you want. It can be used to achieve long or flatter points.
But most importantly, the hovel ensures that the graphite doesn't break as easily as with a conventional sharpener. A conventional sharpener's rotating motion causes the graphite lead to break more quickly.
Another advantage of the Hovel is that it can also sharpen very soft pencils such as pastels.
The blades are interchangeable.
