Kuretake Co. Ltd. was founded in 1902. To mark the company's 120th anniversary, 6 inks were released whose colors reflect the history of Japan at the beginning of the 20th century.
In the Meiji period, purple was considered the most noble color, reserved for the nobility. Therefore, other shades of purple have always been very popular. One of these colors was Ebicha, a dark red with a slight purple tinge that was made from grape juice. This was particularly popular with female students at the beginning of the 20th century.
