Esterbrook x Crane : The Mariner

Two traditional American brands, one shared aesthetic: For this special edition, Esterbrook combines the classic silhouette of the Estie with high-end maritime materials from classic yacht building. The result is not a pure acrylic holder, but a tangible haptic experience of real wood, lacquer and metal.
While Crane Stationery is little known in Europe, the traditional company founded in Massachusetts in 1801 is considered an absolute institution for luxury correspondence in the USA. For over two centuries, Crane has stood for unique craftsmanship: the production of the finest stationery made from 100% cotton instead of classic wood pulp. Since 1879, Crane has exclusively supplied the extremely durable cotton-linen paper on which US dollar banknotes are printed.
-
The barrel (Teak wood): The heart of the pen consists of genuine teak wood. It is engraved with fine, tactile longitudinal lines that are inspired by the deck planks of classic luxury yachts. The wood is natural enough to develop an individual patina with use – the fountain pen matures with writing.
-
The cap (Navy lacquer): In contrast to the warm, textured wood, the cap is made of deep navy blue high-gloss lacquer, whose color reflects the vastness of the ocean.
-
The fittings: The nautical design is rounded off by gold-plated decorative parts and subtle copper accents that emphasize the maritime look.
Inside, the proven technology that Esterbrook is known for is at work:
-
The nib: A gold-plated JoWo #6 stainless steel nib, which has been specially provided with an exclusive compass engraving for this edition. It delivers the usual reliable, rich ink flow.
-
The interior: Equipped with the proven Cushion Cap Closure System (spring-loaded inner cap that prevents the nib from drying out).
-
Filling: Standard converter (included) or standard cartridges.
The "The Mariner" is not delivered in a simple case, but as an elaborate collector's set in a maritime box, which also bridges the gap to Crane:
-
The fountain pen (Esterbrook × Crane Mariner)
-
30 ml ink bottle in the exclusive color Sea Blue
-
Pen case made of synthetic leather
-
Maritime accessories: A keychain with a golden compass charm, a carabiner clip, and a textile Mariner patch.
-
The secret compartment: In a hidden drawer in the bottom of the box are five sets of exclusive Crane stationery made of 100% cotton with matching, maritime-designed envelopes.
If you like the classic, smooth acrylic resins of the regular Estie series, you will be surprised here. The "The Mariner" thrives on the haptic contrast between the grained, grippy teak wood and the smooth lacquered cap.
